Here’s a quick history of logistics in LA and WARP’s innovations to build the future in the industry:
LA has long been a hub of logistics and transportation, playing a critical role in moving goods across the United States and globally. The city's strategic location, extensive infrastructure, and ports like the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach make it a key player in the logistics industry.
During the Gold Rush era, LA began to develop as a major logistics center. The construction of the first railroads in the 1870s, led by the Union Pacific Railroad, connected LA to the rest of the country, facilitating the movement of goods and people.
The Port of Los Angeles, established in 1907, quickly grew to become one of the busiest in the world, handling a wide array of imports and exports.
The aerospace industry and the interstate highway system, with significant contributions from Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway, Caltrans, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin, have cemented LA's role as a critical distribution point for goods by leveraging the city's extensive network of highways, railroads, and ports.
In 2022, the Port of Los Angeles handled over 10 million TEUs of cargo, and the Port of Long Beach handled over 9 million TEUs of cargo, making it a key gateway for trade with Asia. About 580,000 jobs in LA County and over 1 million statewide are supported by the ports. The Port of Los Angeles generated over $276 billion in trade value, significantly contributing to the local and state economy.
The Inland Empire has over 1.6 billion square feet of warehouse space and more than 4,000 warehouses and distribution centers as of 2023. This area has become a critical logistics hub due to its proximity to LA and the availability of space.
We are proud to be headquartered in the heart of Los Angeles, building on its rich history in logistics and continuing to push the industry forward with our cutting-edge solutions and dedicated service!
